Balatro Perkeo — Negative Consumable Every Shop

Perkeo copies one random consumable as a Negative when you leave the shop. Negative means no slot cost, which is why it never clogs. The only Joker that triggers on shop exit.

Perkeo: one random consumable you hold gets a Negative copy when you leave the shop.

Every time you leave the shop, Perkeo takes one random consumable you are holding and makes a Negative copy of it. Negative grants +1 consumable slot to the card carrying it, which means the copy always fits, even with every slot full.

Two facts make this Joker unusual: it is the only Joker in the game that triggers on shop exit, and it is the only way to get Negative consumables at all.

Make the "random" deterministic

The word random is doing a lot of work in that description, and most players lose most of Perkeo's value here.

Hold exactly one consumable when you leave the shop. Then the pick is not random at all, it is the card you chose. Use or sell everything else first. If you walk out holding a Death, a Fool and a Mercury, you are taking a 1-in-3 on getting the one that matters.

That is the whole technique. Everything below is what to point it at.

Best combos

Observatory turns held Planets into X1.5 Mult each. Perkeo prints those Planets for free.

Observatory. This is the combo that turns Perkeo from a value engine into a score engine. Observatory gives X1.5 Mult for each Planet card in your consumable slots matching the hand you played. Perkeo copies your Planet every shop as a Negative, so it stacks without ever costing a slot. Ten held copies of the same Planet is a multiplier no other line reaches, and it keeps climbing every ante.

Ghost Deck. Spectral cards appear in the shop. That is the only reliable way to hold a Spectral for Perkeo to copy, and Spectrals are where the game-changing effects live. Cryptid duplicates a playing card, Immolate thins the deck and pays out, Aura applies editions, Deja Vu stamps Red Seals. Outside Ghost Deck your only routes are Séance and Sixth Sense.

Campfire and Gift Card both convert Perkeo's free copies into money.

Campfire. Gains X0.25 Mult per card sold, and resets when the Boss Blind is defeated. That reset is why Campfire is usually mediocre, and why Perkeo fixes it: a guaranteed free consumable every shop means guaranteed sells every ante, so Campfire arrives at each boss already stacked instead of starting from X1.

Gift Card. +$1 sell value to every Joker and consumable each round. Hold Perkeo's Negative copies for a few rounds and sell them fat. The bonus does not shrink under Clearance Sale or Liquidation.

Constellation. Gains X0.1 Mult per Planet used. Perkeo doubling your Planet supply doubles the rate.

Ectoplasm. Puts Negative on a Joker, which is a free Joker slot. Perkeo copying Ectoplasm lets you run 7 or 8 Jokers. Watch the hand size penalty though, it is additive and it kills runs.

What it fights with

Madness. It destroys a random Joker to gain Mult, and it will not eat Eternal Jokers. Legendaries from The Soul carry no sticker, so Perkeo is a legal target. Do not run them together.

Other non-scoring Jokers. Perkeo adds no chips and no Mult. Stack it with Chicot, a money Joker and a generator and you have a beautiful board that cannot beat Ante 6. It needs a clear scorer next to it — that is the actual constraint, not any specific card.

Painted Deck. -1 Joker slot. A Joker that does not score is the wrong one to squeeze in there, though Perkeo's compounding usually still wins the trade.

The clock

Perkeo's value is a function of how many shops you have left. Each shop is one Negative copy.

Verdict

The best Legendary to find on Ante 1 and the worst to find on Ante 8. It scores nothing itself and it builds whatever you tell it to, which is a fair trade only while there are antes left to compound over.

FAQ

Can Perkeo copy a consumable when all slots are full?

Yes, always. The copy carries Negative, which adds +1 consumable slot to itself, so it never needs a free slot to land in.

Does Perkeo copy Jokers or playing cards?

No. Consumables only, meaning Tarot, Planet and Spectral cards. For Joker copies you need Invisible Joker or Ankh.

Are Negative consumables worth more when sold?

Yes, the Negative edition raises sell value. Pair it with Gift Card and hold for a few rounds before selling.

Blueprint on Perkeo, both trigger?

Both trigger, and each picks independently from what you hold. Holding two different consumables can yield two different Negative copies in one shop exit.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does Perkeo do in Balatro?
When you leave the shop, Perkeo creates a Negative copy of one random consumable you are holding. Negative adds +1 consumable slot to the card it is on, so the copy always fits even when your slots are full.
How do you control what Perkeo copies?
Hold exactly one consumable when you leave the shop. The pick is random among what you hold, so one held card makes it deterministic. Do not gamble on it choosing correctly from three.
Is Perkeo good?
Very, if you find it early. It generates zero chips and zero Mult, so its entire value is compounding over the antes you have left. Found on Ante 7 it is a $10 sell.
What is the best Perkeo combo?
Observatory plus stacked Planet cards. Observatory gives X1.5 Mult per matching Planet held in your consumable slots, and Perkeo prints Negative copies of that Planet every shop, so the multiplier keeps climbing.
Does Perkeo work with Blueprint?
Yes, and it is one of the best Jokers to copy. Each trigger picks independently, so with different consumables held you can get two different Negative copies per shop.
