What Cartomancer does

Cartomancer creates a Tarot card when Blind is selected. The Tarot is random from the full Tarot pool, dropped into your consumable slot if there's room. If the slot is full, the Tarot is wasted.

Free Tarots per Blind = 3 per ante × 8 antes = up to 24 free Tarots across a run.

Why Tarot volume matters

Tarot cards reshape your deck and economy. The big ones:

  • Justice: adds Glass enhancement to a card.
  • The Magician: adds Lucky enhancement to a card.
  • The Empress: adds Mult enhancement to two cards.
  • The Hierophant: adds Bonus chips to two cards.
  • Strength: rank +1.
  • Death: copies one card's rank onto another.
  • The Fool: creates a copy of the last Tarot/Planet used.

With Cartomancer feeding 24 random Tarots across a run, you can build a heavily enhanced deck for free.

Cartomancer + The Fool loop

The Fool tarot copies the last consumable used. If you use a powerful Tarot (e.g., Justice for Glass enhancement), then use The Fool, you get another Justice. With Cartomancer dropping random Tarots constantly, The Fool becomes a reliable way to amplify good rolls.

Cartomancer + Vampire

Vampire eats enhancements for +×0.1 Mult. Cartomancer's free Tarots → free enhancements → free Vampire fuel. The cycle:

  1. Cartomancer drops Justice → apply to card (Glass).
  2. Score the Glass card → Vampire eats it for +×0.1.
  3. Repeat next Blind selection.

A typical Cartomancer + Vampire run gains +×0.5 to +×1 Vampire mult per ante.

Cartomancer + Glass Joker

Glass Joker scales on Glass card destruction. Cartomancer's Justice tarots seed Glass into the deck repeatedly. With 5+ Glass cards in deck, Glass Joker scales hard from natural shatter rate.

A focused run uses Justice on face cards (for Canio compatibility) or on Wild cards (Glass + Wild = ×2 Mult flex card).

Cartomancer + Pareidolia trick

Pareidolia makes every card a face card. Cartomancer's Justice + Pareidolia = Glass face card every time → feeds Canio (face card destruction) AND Glass Joker simultaneously.

What kills Cartomancer

  • Full consumable slots: if you carry consumables you never use, Cartomancer's drops are wasted. Active Tarot use clears slots.
  • Late acquisition: Cartomancer creating 12 Tarots in Antes 5-8 is much weaker than 24 across the whole run.
  • No enhancement-focused build: if you don't have Vampire, Glass Joker, Canio, or any enhancement-using joker, the Tarots have less to do.

When to take, when to skip

Take Cartomancer:

  • Early-mid acquisition (Antes 1-4) for full run compounding.
  • Enhancement-scaling build (Vampire, Glass Joker, Canio, Wee Joker on 2s).
  • The Fool tarot already in pocket for amplification.

Skip Cartomancer:

  • Late acquisition with limited remaining Blinds.
  • Plasma deck or Buffoon Pack-heavy builds where shop slots are already overloaded with jokers and consumables.
  • Pure X-mult joker stacking build that doesn't need deck enhancements.
