What Certificate does

Certificate adds a random playing card with a random seal to your hand at the start of each round. The card has a random rank, suit, and seal (Red, Blue, Gold, or Purple).

The card joins your hand for that round only — it does NOT join your permanent deck. After the round ends, the card is gone. The seal effect, however, fires while the card is in hand or scored.

Why the seal randomization matters

The four seals have very different effects:

  • Red Seal: retriggers the card once when scored. Free +1 trigger if Certificate's card lands in your played hand.
  • Blue Seal: creates a Planet card if held in hand at end of round. Free Planet card per round.
  • Gold Seal: gives $3 when held in hand at end of round. Free economy.
  • Purple Seal: creates a Tarot card if discarded. Free Tarot per round if you remember to discard the Certificate card.

Every seal is useful in some build. Certificate is a 4-in-1 random utility per round.

Per-seal strategy

Different seals call for different per-round handling:

  • Red Seal: play the Certificate card in your scoring hand if rank/suit fits, or just include it to bank the retrigger.
  • Blue Seal: HOLD it through the round. Don't play it, don't discard it. Free Planet card every round = strong hand-level scaling.
  • Gold Seal: HOLD it through the round. $3 per round × 20 rounds = +$60 cumulative.
  • Purple Seal: DISCARD it during the round. Free Tarot every round.

Across 20 rounds:

  • 5 rounds Red (~25%): 5 retriggers per round = 5 free triggers.
  • 5 rounds Blue: 5 free Planet cards = 5 hand levels.
  • 5 rounds Gold: $15 free.
  • 5 rounds Purple: 5 free Tarots.

Aggregate: 5 retriggers + 5 hand levels + $15 + 5 Tarots across the run, for one Uncommon slot.

Certificate + Mime

Mime retriggers all held-in-hand abilities. Held-card seals (Blue, Gold) fire twice per round with Mime:

  • Blue Seal: 2 Planet cards per round instead of 1.
  • Gold Seal: $6 per round instead of $3.

Mime + Certificate is a quiet but real engine: more Tarots, Planets, money for one slot's investment.

Certificate + Cartomancer

Cartomancer drops Tarots per Blind. Certificate drops random sealed cards per round. They don't directly stack, but both fill your consumable economy.

A Cartomancer + Certificate + Mime build creates a constant stream of Tarots, Planets, and money with minimal effort.

Certificate vs other utility jokers

Certificate's randomness is its weakness. Compare to:

  • Cartomancer (always a Tarot, predictable): more consistent value if you're enhancement-focused.
  • Telescope (guaranteed Planet for most-played hand): better for pure Planet-card builds.
  • Astronomer (free Celestial Packs): better economy for hand-leveling.

Certificate is a generalist. The expected value across all 4 seal types is solid, but it never specializes.

When to take, when to skip

Take Certificate:

  • Mid run as a utility filler when nothing more focused is available.
  • Mime in build for held-card seal doubling.
  • Generalist build that benefits from any seal.

Skip Certificate:

  • Specialized build (pure Flush, pure Triboulet) where random utility doesn't compound.
  • Tight slot economy — Certificate's contribution is broad but never large in any single direction.
  • Late acquisition — fewer rounds to bank seal effects.
