What Mime retriggers

Mime retriggers every card held in hand ability during scoring. Specifically: when a held card has a trigger that fires during scoring (Steel ×1.5 Mult, hand-held seals, Baron's per-King mult), Mime fires that effect a second time.

Mime does NOT retrigger cards in the scored hand. That's what Sock and Buskin does (for face cards) and Hanging Chad does (for the first scored card). The three retrigger jokers have distinct domains.

The buildings Mime breaks

Mime's value is entirely set by what abilities you have on cards held in hand.

Baron + Mime

Baron gives ×1.5 Mult per King held in hand. Mime retriggers it. With 4 Kings held:

  • Baron alone: ×1.5⁴ = ×5.06
  • Baron + Mime: ×1.5⁴ × ×1.5⁴ = ×25.6

This is the canonical Mime stack. Adding Sock and Buskin doesn't help here (Sock and Buskin is for scored face cards, not held).

Steel cards

Steel enhancement gives ×1.5 Mult when the card is held in hand and scoring happens. Mime doubles it:

  • 1 Steel card held: Baron-free ×1.5
  • 1 Steel card + Mime: ×1.5 × ×1.5 = ×2.25
  • 4 Steel cards held: ×1.5⁴ = ×5.06
  • 4 Steel cards + Mime: ×5.06 × ×5.06 = ×25.6 per hand

Equivalent power to Baron + Mime, except Steel cards work on any card rank — no need to find Kings.

Held-card seals

Gold-seal cards give $3 when held at end of round. Mime doubles to $6. A few Gold-sealed cards held = consistent free economy.

Blue-seal cards (creates a Planet card if held at end of round) — Mime doubles to two Planet cards per Blue-seal held.

Mime in builds without held-card synergy

If you don't have Baron, Steel cards, or seal-sealed cards, Mime does nothing. Mime is one of the most build-dependent jokers in the game.

In a generic Flush or Pair build with no held-card effects, Mime sits at 0 mult contribution per round. Slot waste.

Mime + Blueprint / Brainstorm

Blueprint and Brainstorm DO NOT copy retrigger abilities. A copy of Mime is functionally a no-op. The retrigger only fires from Mime's own slot.

This is one of the few cases where Blueprint and Brainstorm are useless. Skip the copy chain for Mime; instead, double down on the held-card effects themselves.

When to take, when to skip

Take Mime:

  • You already have Baron, or have committed to a Steel-card build.
  • You have Gold-seal / Blue-seal cards in your deck.
  • Cerulean Bell or Manacle (forces you to hold cards) is on the horizon.

Skip Mime:

  • No held-card effects in your build and no plan to add them. Mime is 0 mult.
  • DNA / scoring-hand-focused builds — Mime offers nothing.
  • The Manacle boss (-1 hand size) reduces held-card count, weakening Mime's payoff. Chicot helps.
