What Pareidolia does

Pareidolia makes every card in your deck count as a face card, for any effect that checks "is this a face card." This is silent — the cards don't visually change, they don't gain mult or chips themselves — but every face-card-checking joker now fires on every card.

The effect applies to held-in-hand cards as well as played cards.

The jokers Pareidolia transforms

Pareidolia is itself a 0-mult joker. Its value is entirely in what it enables for other jokers:

• Triboulet (+×3 Mult per King/Queen played): becomes "+×3 Mult per card played" — every scored card is now a "King or Queen" from Triboulet's perspective. With Pareidolia, a 5-card hand triggers Triboulet 5 times: ×3⁵ = ×243 Mult.
• Canio (×1 Mult per face card destroyed): every card destruction now counts. Glass shatters on non-face cards now feed Canio.
• Smiley Face (+5 Mult per face card scored): becomes +25 Mult per 5-card hand played.
• Sock and Buskin (retrigger face cards in scored hand): retriggers every scored card. Effectively doubles every scored card's contribution.
• Hack (retrigger 2, 3, 4, 5 in scored hand): unrelated, but...
• Scary Face (+30 chips per face card scored): becomes +150 chips per 5-card hand.
• Business Card (1 in 2 chance to earn $2 per face card): every scored card has the 50% chance.

Pareidolia is the linchpin enabler for several face-card archetypes.

The "Pareidolia + Triboulet + Blueprint" wincon

The most reliable Pareidolia line: build around Triboulet, ensure Pareidolia is present so every card triggers Triboulet, then double via Blueprint and Brainstorm:

• 5-card hand × Pareidolia × Triboulet × Blueprint × Brainstorm:
  • Triboulet alone: ×3⁵ = ×243
  • • Blueprint: ×3⁵ × ×3⁵ = ×59,049
  • • Brainstorm: ×3⁵ × ×3⁵ × ×3⁵ = ×14,348,907

This is the line every Pareidolia run is building toward.

What Pareidolia does NOT do

• Baron (×1.5 per King held in hand): Baron checks specifically for Kings, not "face cards." Pareidolia does not make every card a King — only a face card. So Baron does NOT benefit from Pareidolia.
• Hit the Road (×0.5 per Jack discarded): same — checks specifically for Jacks, not faces.
• Diet Cola / Mr. Bones: condition-triggered, not face-card-based.
• Suit-specific jokers (Greedy Joker, Lusty Joker — +Mult per suit): suit is unchanged by Pareidolia.

Pareidolia + Sock and Buskin retrigger doubling

Sock and Buskin retriggers face cards. With Pareidolia, every scored card retriggers. This effectively doubles the impact of every scored card on every joker that fires per-card.

Combined: Pareidolia + Sock and Buskin + Triboulet = each scored card triggers Triboulet twice. 5 cards = 10 Triboulet triggers = ×3¹⁰ = ×59,049 Mult from one hand.

When to take, when to skip

Take Pareidolia:

• Triboulet, Canio, Smiley Face, or Sock and Buskin in build.
• Glass-card destruction build (Canio + Glass faces).
• Soul-spawn run targeting Triboulet finale.

Skip Pareidolia:

• Baron / Hit the Road build (Pareidolia doesn't help these).
• No face-card-checking jokers in build.
• Suit-focused builds (Greedy, Lusty, Bloodstone) — Pareidolia is irrelevant.
