Every King and every Queen you play and score multiplies your Mult by 2. Not once per hand, once per card.
That compounds fast:
| Scoring K/Q in the hand | Triboulet gives |
|---|---|
| 1 | X2 |
| 2 | X4 |
| 3 | X8 |
| 4 | X16 |
| 5 | X32 |
Add Sock and Buskin, which retriggers every played face card, and each King and Queen fires twice. Five of them becomes ten triggers: X1024. That number is not theoretical, it is a standard Ante 8 line.

The job: raise K/Q density
Triboulet is the rare Legendary that asks you to rebuild the deck rather than build an engine. A default 52-card deck has 8 Kings and Queens. Draw 8 cards and you see roughly 1.2 of them. That is X2, which is fine, not game-winning.
Getting to a reliable X16 or X32 means every Tarot goes toward one job:
- Death — convert a junk card into a copy of a King or Queen. The single most efficient density tool.
- Strength — bumps rank by 1. Jack becomes Queen, Queen becomes King. Two uses turns a Jack into a King.
- The Empress — makes cards Mult Cards, useful on the K/Q you already have.
- Immolate / removal — thinning low cards raises the odds every draw contains faces.
Play Full House, Flush House and Five of a Kind where you can. Those hands put multiple faces into the scoring set at once. A High Card build technically works with Triboulet and gets X2 a hand, which is a waste of a Legendary slot.
Best combos
Sock and Buskin. The highest-value pairing in the game for Triboulet. Every played face card retriggers, so every X2 becomes X4 in effect. If you take one support Joker, take this.
Hanging Chad. Retriggers the first scored card twice more. Lead a hand with a King and you get three X2 procs off one card.
Red Seal. A Red Seal on a King retriggers it once. Free X2 per sealed card, and it stacks with Sock and Buskin. Deja Vu applies Red Seals, and Perkeo can duplicate Deja Vu every shop.
Photograph. Gives X2 Mult to the first scored face card. Completely non-conflicting with Triboulet since they read different things, they just both like face cards.
Perkeo. Hold Death or Strength when you leave the shop and get a free Negative copy. This is the fastest legal way to reshape a deck toward Kings and Queens.
What it fights with
Baron and Shoot the Moon. Baron gives X1.5 per King held in hand, Shoot the Moon +13 Mult per Queen held in hand. Triboulet needs those cards played. You cannot do both with the same card, and splitting your Kings between two plans makes both bad.
Canio. Canio wants face cards destroyed. Your Kings and Queens are face cards. Direct conflict.
Ride the Bus. Gains +1 Mult per consecutive hand played with no scoring face card. You are playing Kings and Queens every hand, so it sits at 0 forever.
Reserved Parking. Pays for face cards held in hand. Same held-versus-played conflict, though it is minor since you can leave Jacks behind.
What kills it
The Plant debuffs every face card, and a debuffed King gives Triboulet nothing. If your whole score is Triboulet, that blind is a loss. This is the single strongest argument for pairing Triboulet with Chicot, which switches Boss Blind effects off entirely.
Abandoned Deck starts with no face cards at all. Medusa replaces every face card with Stone cards. Mad World is 2 through 9 only. In all three, Triboulet starts at zero and you are building density from scratch.
Put a Full House of Kings and Queens through the score calculator with Triboulet and Sock and Buskin.
Verdict
The one Legendary that is worth taking at any ante. On Ante 2 you reshape the deck around it and win. On Ante 8 you play the Kings you already have and it is still X8 for free. Its only real weakness has a name, and that name is The Plant.
FAQ
No. The card has to be part of the scoring set. In a Pair, only the two paired cards score unless you have Splash, so an unpaired King in the same hand contributes nothing.
No. Pareidolia makes all cards count as face cards, but Triboulet checks for Kings and Queens specifically, not face cards. It is one of the few face-card Jokers Pareidolia does not touch.
They are compatible. Steel gives X1.5 while held in hand, Triboulet gives X2 when played. A Steel King you hold and a normal King you play do different jobs, so a mixed King deck is fine.
