How Canio scales

Canio gains ×1 Mult permanently every time a face card is destroyed. Destruction sources include Glass cards shattering, jokers like Gros Michel/Cavendish self-destructing (when they're face cards via conversion), enhancement effects, and specific Spectral cards.

A face card is a Jack, Queen, or King — or any card if you have Pareidolia in play.

How to feed Canio

The joker is dead on arrival without a destruction engine. Real Canio runs build around steady destruction:

  • Glass face cards: Glass enhancement gives ×2 Mult AND 1 in 4 chance to destroy on play. Glass + face card = direct Canio feed every time it shatters. Use the Glass tarot or Marble Joker on face cards to seed your deck.
  • Pareidolia: turns every card into a face card. Now any destruction triggers Canio — Cavendish self-destruct, any Glass shatter, every relevant Spectral cost.
  • Hex (Spectral): destroys a random face card, gives Polychrome to another. Direct +1 Mult to Canio plus a permanent build boost.
  • Sigil / Ouija (Spectral, with face-rich decks): not destruction sources directly but reshape decks toward face-heavy.

Canio + Pareidolia is the combo

Without Pareidolia, you need to convert specific cards to faces and Glass-enhance them — fiddly. With Pareidolia, the entire deck is "face cards" from Canio's perspective. Every Glass shatter, every Hex, every Cavendish self-destruct feeds Canio.

That's why Pareidolia is the single most important pickup for any Canio run, often above other higher-rarity options.

Canio + Blueprint

Canio is multiplicative once it's growing. At Canio ×10, Blueprint contributes another ×10 from one slot. Brainstorm same. Stacked: Canio + Blueprint + Brainstorm with each face destruction triples the trigger? No — Canio's growth fires once per destruction. Blueprint copies the current Mult Canio is providing on each scored hand. So:

  • Canio at ×10, 5 face cards scored: ×10 once (Canio doesn't fire per card, the static X mult applies once per hand).
  • Add Blueprint: +×10 once per hand (same).
  • Total: ×100 per hand from those two slots.

It's a flat ×X-mult, not per-face-card. Don't expect Triboulet-style stacking.

Realistic Canio output

A run that destroys 1 face card per round across 20 rounds = ×20 mult. Aggressive destruction (Glass face cards + Pareidolia + Hex use) can push 2-3 destructions per round, reaching ×40+ by Ante 8.

For comparison, naked Triboulet caps at ×243 on a hand of 5 faces but requires that hand every round. Canio's static X mult applies to every hand — so ×40 every hand often outperforms ×243 once-per-round.

When to take

Take Canio:

  • Early Soul spawn alongside Pareidolia, Glass tarot access, or Cerulean Bell.
  • You're already on a Glass-card build.
  • You have Blueprint/Brainstorm to double it.

Skip Canio:

  • No destruction engine and no path to one. Canio at ×1 is a dead slot.
  • Late-ante pickup with no time to compound — at Ante 7 you'll bank maybe 3-4 destructions, capping around ×4.
