Chicot
Disables effect of every Boss Blind
What Chicot actually does
Chicot disables the effect of every Boss Blind. The Boss Blind's chip requirement still applies, but its passive/triggered ability — discarding cards, raising blind cost, debuffing cards, locking hand types — is turned off.
Chicot doesn't add mult or chips. It's pure run-safety: it removes the part of the game that punishes inflexible builds.
Which Boss effects matter most to disable
Some bosses are mild. Others can end a run on their own. Chicot is most valuable against the punishing ones:
- The Tooth (-$1 per card played). Drains economy faster than you can replenish.
- The Wall (chip requirement ×2). Forces hand-of-the-run timing.
- The Needle (1 hand only). Hard cap on number of opportunities to score.
- The Water (0 discards). Locks discard-dependent jokers like Yorick / Hit the Road / Burnt Joker.
- The Eye (no repeat hand types). Forces builds that play one hand type to switch.
- The Mouth (1 hand type only). Mirror image of The Eye.
- The Manacle (-1 hand size). Worst against Baron and any held-card build.
- The Plant / The Verdant Leaf (cards/jokers debuffed). Can kill scoring builds outright on the wrong turn.
Chicot deletes all of these in one slot. The value scales with how brittle your build is to bosses.
When a build NEEDS Chicot
Some archetypes are bossed-out by specific Boss Blinds:
- Single-hand-type spam (Obelisk, Flush builds): The Eye and The Mouth shut them off. Chicot is mandatory.
- Discard-scaling (Yorick, Hit the Road, Burnt Joker): The Water destroys them. Chicot is mandatory.
- Held-card builds (Baron + Mime): The Manacle halves their floor. Chicot is mandatory.
- High-stake runs (Orange / Gold Stake) where boss difficulty ramps. Chicot becomes essentially a permanent +1 safety slot.
Counters and overlap
Chicot doesn't help with chip requirements themselves — only with the boss's special effect. You still need scoring power.
Two ways Chicot value drops:
- You have Director's Cut or Retcon (reroll boss). You can already dodge the bad bosses cheaply.
- Your build is naturally boss-agnostic — pure flush or straight builds with X-mult that don't care about most boss effects.
Take or skip
Take Chicot whenever offered. Legendary slot value alone justifies the cost in 95% of runs. Even if you have boss reroll, Chicot frees up the consumable slots for higher-value plays. Only skip Chicot if your joker slots are already full of better scaling pieces AND you have a boss reroll plan.
